60% to 80% of the time spent by HR staff is devoted to repetitive administrative tasks, including answering common employee and management questions and retrieving information.

So says the Society for HR Management, so they should know! So why do we cling to paper? I can't believe it's because we are afraid of technology, not these days. Maybe we don't want to loose that personal touch, or we don't quite know what's available to help make our job easier. And of course, we love signatures! So let's talk about signatures.

U.S. Code defines an electronic signature as "an electronic sound, symbol, or process, attached to or logically associated with a contract or other record and executed or adopted by a person with the intent to sign the record." Electronic signatures have been around for a while, in binding contracts, regulatory filings etc., so we've demolished that hurdle!

We have to contend with pay stubb laws that differs in each state. Some states say that your employee have to opt out of receiving a pay stuff, others simply say that the pay stubb have to be available to print, yet others are num on the subject.

Are you then worried that your employee are not ready for 'self-service' and other instant services?

I'd love to hear from readers what their main hurdles are, that prevent their company to deploy a human resource management system. Experts in HRMS are welcome as well!

We just finished implementing a paperless paycheck system for a customer. All employees receive their check stubs as an encrypted password protected pdf. Those without direct deposit are provided with paycards. No more stuffing envelopes and sending checks to multiple locations at the last minute. Next we will tackle the personnel files!
